FAQs

Is allergen training a legal requirement?

In the UK, food businesses must make sure that their staff receive training on allergens. This training should include information on the 14 food allergens that must be labelled as being present in foods.

As well as the 14 allergens, this course also explains the legal frameworks relating to allergens and describes the different considerations depending on where food is sold and how it’s packaged.

Since 1st October 2021 is has been a legal requirement for businesses to include a full ingredients label and highlighting any of the 14 major allergens it contains under Natasha’s Law. This course also helps you to understand the impact of Natasha’s Law and how it keeps customers safe.

Who should receive allergen training?

All staff who prepare, handle, store or package food as part of their role should receive training on allergens so they know how to handle food safely. This includes front of house, back of house and managers within the business.

Allergen training should be renewed periodically to ensure training is up to date.
