Hymans Robertson works alongside employers, trustees, and financial services institutions, to offer independent pensions, investments, and benefits and risk consulting services, as well as data and technology solutions.

In the last 10 years, Hymans Robertson has more than tripled in size, from 400 to 1400 employees, and has expanded internationally into Canada and the USA.

“It was a combination of 2 things,” Ross told us. “The software itself, and the people we met. We went through a thorough selection process and met with a lot of different providers. The software you provide is very comprehensive, but we also enjoyed working with you guys. The sales process can often be quite difficult and hard going. There’s lots of different elements to it. But anytime I spoke to anybody from Access, I felt as though you were a company we could work with, in partnership, and that’s important.”

Your challenge, our solution

In 2014, Hymans Robertson implemented a number of new software solutions. But in the subsequent 10 years, having tripled in size and expanded internationally, these solutions were no longer fit for purpose.

“We had a couple of problems with our previous provider,” Ross explains. “The speed of the system was an issue and we had problems with the support we got. We were looking for a provider who could help us a bit more and to have a more stable platform. We tended to have a lot of different solutions that didn’t all necessarily talk to each other, so we were looking for a solution that could help us to integrate our systems.”

As well as this, self-serve functionality wasn’t available for colleagues in Canada and the USA. So, let’s take a detailed look at the solution we implemented:

  • Scalable HR with PeopleXD

  • Payroll

Access Payroll is designed for the changing requirements of a growing business. You can build the solution you need now, and scale as required in future.

“One of our most significant outcomes so far has been running our annual salary review through the system for the first time. We weren’t sure how it was going to pan-out, but we got all 1400 submissions in by the deadline. It worked!” Ross says.

  • EarlyPay

Hymans Robertson also chose to add EarlyPay as an offering for its people. EarlyPay is our on-demand app which gives employees instant access to pay they’ve already earned. Our latest survey tells us companies who use EarlyPay have seen an 80% increase in loyalty, and that 93% of people who’ve used on-demand pay say it’s helped them through the cost-of-living crisis.

  • Talent Management

“Another of our most significant outcomes has been launching an appraisal cycle through the talent module,” Ross told us. “And again, it’s been received positively.”

Our partnership so far

Ross told us the key factors in play when choosing to work with Access were the software itself, but also the partnership. We’ve explored some of the significant outcomes from the systems solution we implemented together but have we delivered on his expectations from our partnership?

We had a good experience with the project team which is important. There are always niggles in any project, but the support was really effective. And now we’ve got our dedicated Success Manager and our Account Manager, and every interaction is positive. They’ve always been prompt in coming back to us with solutions. I’m impressed by the whole Access Group in terms of the support you’ve given us. So far, so good!

What’s next for Hymans Robertson and Access?

Ross and his Account Manager are currently discussing some exciting new plans for the next 12 months.

The organisation has an ATS in place, but Ross is looking at how our integrated HR recruitment software would deliver streamlined processes, and assist Hymans Robertson in attracting and retaining the best talent.

He’s also exploring an upgrade from their existing employee benefits offering with our benefits and rewards software, to help drive employee engagement, support recognition, and boost satisfaction. And all available in our on-the-go app.

“We’ve already seen the benefits of one integrated solution. We just need to work through how we pull that all together, and what timescales we might work to,” he says.

And finally, is there anything about implementing this solution with Access that you’d do differently, with hindsight?

“That’s a difficult question,” says Ross. “We got the outcome we wanted. We got a successful system launched. Everything’s gone to plan. We hit the timelines we expected to hit. And we came in on budget. So, I don’t think we’d do anything differently, other than to have gotten it signed off sooner!”
