We spend most of our waking hours at work, so it’s only natural that we want to be happy in our jobs. But why, and more importantly, how should employers care for their employees’ wellbeing in the workplace?

Our recent research reveals that managers and employees alike are spending approximately two months a year on ‘non-value added’ activities. In other words, almost a 5th of the working year is being lost to poor productivity.

Plenty of research shows that wellbeing and productivity are very much connected. A happy workforce is more productive, while employees who are satisfied with their output are likely to be happier and more content at work.

At its core, wellbeing is about people, and organisations ultimately support employees’ wellbeing by creating the conditions that enable them to thrive.

There are many facets to our wellbeing, including our physical health, our mental wellness, and our environment.

Organisations can take various steps to positively impact the wellbeing of their employees, from encouraging healthy habits to providing information, support, and guidance around key topics or giving employees the right tools and environment to achieve their personal and professional goals.
