JNP Legal modernises on‑premise infrastructure with fully managed cloud platform from Access Managed Services
JNP Legal, a multi‑office law firm with approximately 53 users working across office and home locations, has successfully transitioned from an ageing on‑premise IT environment to a modern, fully managed cloud platform delivered by Access Managed Service (AMS).

From fragmented on premise IT to a unified cloud platform
Prior to partnering with AMS, JNP Legal operated a predominantly on‑premise environment, supporting the users across multiple offices. The firm relied on a combination of Windows Server infrastructure alongside a RDS solution hosting critical legal applications.
While the system was functional, it had become highly fragmented. Support responsibilities were split between internal staff, ad‑hoc managed service days purchased from their trusted providers, and individual application vendors - placing a growing administrative burden on the firm.
“Managing multiple suppliers alongside an ageing on‑premise setup was becoming increasingly complex and time‑consuming. It diverted valuable internal resource resources away from supporting the business operations and delivering for our clients,” said Cairan Trotman, Operational and Finance Manager at JNP Legal.
With servers approaching end of life, increasing cyber risk, and a desire to align technology investment with the firm’s new financial year, JNP Legal began exploring a fully cloud‑based alternative.
Supporting hybrid work without compromise
Hybrid working was a key driver behind the move. Fee earners frequently work from home, the office, and court, accessing systems via remote access technology that often struggled struggles under the load of multiple applications.
Users regularly experienced disconnections when working across several systems simultaneously, and mobile access to certain applications - particularly telephony - introduced additional challenges around reliability and security.
“Our previous environment wasn’t built for the way we now work. With colleagues regularly moving between home, office and court, we needed a solution that could deliver consistent performance and reliable access wherever our people are based.”
Security had become an increasing priority. Although the firm had recently achieved Cyber Essentials certification, there remained a strong internal view that further enhancements were necessary to ensure a more robust and resilient security posture.
This has been achieved in the new solution by the deployment of InTune and conditional access policies to enforce device security and compliance.
This has resulted in a more than doubling of the previous Microsoft security score!
A secure, simplified cloud environment
By moving to AMS’s fully supported platform, JNP Legal has centralised access to all core systems within a secure, managed environment - allowing staff to work from anywhere on firm‑managed devices without performance or access issues.
Fully managed IT services now sit under a single provider, simplifying governance while strengthening protection of sensitive client data.
“Moving to a fully managed platform has significantly strengthened our approach to security and compliance. Having everything in one place, under a single provider, gives us far greater confidence and clear accountability in how our systems are protected and managed.”
The new platform also enables closer integration with Microsoft Teams, aligning with the firm’s longer‑term goal of consolidating communications and improving collaboration across offices and remote locations.
Reducing internal burden through fully managed support
With AMS providing fully managed user support, the firm has removed the need to coordinate between multiple suppliers or manage IT reactively internally. Issues are now resolved through a single service desk with clear accountability.
“The shift to fully managed support has reduced the burden on our internal team and removed the need to coordinate across different suppliers. It’s created a much more efficient and responsive support model, allowing us to focus on the firm’s day‑to‑day operations.”
The result is a more stable, predictable IT environment that allows staff to focus on client work rather than technology.
A platform built for the future
Designed to scale with the firm, the AMS platform supports JNP Legal’s future growth while removing reliance on ageing on‑premise infrastructure.
“This transition has given us a much more resilient and scalable technology platform. It positions us well for future growth while ensuring that our systems evolve in line with the needs of the firm.”
JNP Legal’s journey is a great example of how law firms can simplify IT, strengthen security, and enable modern hybrid working by moving away from fragmented, on‑premise systems,” said Scott Ridley, General Manager of Access Managed Services.
