Case Study - Everyturn Mental Health

Hope Haven is a neighbourhood hub, delivering immediate, no-referral mental health crisis support - run as a collaboration between Everyturn Mental Health, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW), Cumbria Health, Home Group, iCan Wellbeing Group CIO, The WELL Communities CIC, and Whitehaven Community Trust.

To make multi-agency care work in practice, they needed a purpose-built EPR. Working with the Access Group, they implemented our
Rio software to give every partner a live view of the people they support.

Who Is Everyturn?

Everyturn Mental Health has been delivering mental health services for 40 years, operating a network of safe havens across the North East.

As one of the partner organisations behind Hope Haven, Everyturn is part of a wider collaboration bringing this service to life; a multi-agency safe haven providing support, virtually and in person, for people experiencing crisis or acute distress.

Hope Haven is one of six pilot sites selected by NHS England as part of its 24/7 Neighbourhood Mental Health Centre programme. It’s a national initiative designed to transform how adult mental health services are delivered, with a focus on accessible, community-based support close to home.

Unlike clinical pathways, the service requires no referral and no waiting list. People walk in and are met immediately by a joined team of mental health professionals, peer workers, and community partners, open seven days a week from 4pm to midnight.

The Challenge

Running a multi-agency service means information has to move as quickly as people do. Everyturn's existing electronic patient record systems were not built for this kind of work - they were dated, fragmented, and unable to support the real-time collaboration Hope Haven depends on, hence the much-needed upgrade.

"Our electronic patient recording systems were quite dated. There was an opportunity for us to work really closely with Access Group and our partners to develop something that was bespoke for Hope Haven." – Pasha Tanriverdi, Director of Strategy & Development

Without a shared care record, there was a real risk that people in crisis would have to repeat their story at every point of contact, and clinicians would be working from incomplete information. Neither is acceptable in a service built on trust.

The Solution

That’s when Everyturn worked with the Access Group to implement Rio EPR, configured specifically for the Hope Haven service model. The implementation was managed collaboratively, with both teams focused on making the system genuinely usable for frontline staff before go-live.

"In terms of implementation, working alongside the Access Group was smooth. It made sure that the system we have was really fit for purpose."  James Nickel, Crisis Services Manager

Rio EPR now gives all partner organisations access to the same record in real time. Integrated with Tableau, it also gives service managers the performance data they need to understand demand and plan capacity.

Outcomes

  • One record across all partners - Every organisation sees the same information, with live updates

  • No repeated histories - A person's story is recorded once and stays with them

  • Structured frontline workflows - Rio creates clear, consistent processes for in-person teams

  • Service-level oversight - Tableau integration surfaces performance data in real time

"Rio has been really important in making sure that we have continuity of care. Clinicians and professionals can look at data from all the partners and build a full picture. It makes a huge difference."  Sam Katula, Senior Development Manager

What’s Next for Everyturn?

Demand for Hope Haven continues to rise. For Everyturn, the growing footfall is both validation of the model and a reminder of the scale of unmet need. The partnership with Access Group has been central to building a service that can absorb that demand without compromising on care.

With the right backing and support, the “hope” is to eventually have a Hope Haven in every city. With Rio underpinning the clinical and operational infrastructure, Everyturn has the foundation to make that case, and more importantly, make it stick.
