Transportation management system

Local authority transport teams are tackling a number of challenges when it comes to home to school transportation; from an increased population needing to access the service, rising costs, limited budgets and specialists requirements for SEN transport users, councils are under pressure to provide a quality service.

Our transport management system facilitates the procurement and ongoing management of transport routes and providers within a single platform. The cloud-based system gives full visibility of your marketplace and bespoke services, allowing procurement teams to assign dedicated routes and providers for any SEN transport requirements, giving teams confidence and clarity.

Not only can the system support significant cost savings, it also ensures every user travelling is placed with an eligible provider and the vehicle is appropriate for the user’s needs. The system also facilitates better communication with suppliers, improving local relationships and community services.

Milton Keynes Council

In 2017, Milton Keynes Council (MKC) partnered with Access adam to launch a solution for managing the council’s home-to-school transport provision; the aim was to improve service standards and make meaningful financial savings for the council.

The project was a big success and demonstrated quick and measurable results. This led MKC to expand their relationship with adam into other areas of the council’s service, including using the adam solution to manage home care activity within Adult Social Services.

Why is rural home-to-school transport increasing costs to councils?

Councils across the UK have been facing increasing pressure to deliver home-to-school transportation services to local areas. And spending is set to rise further each year. This can be attributed to a number of factors including the driver shortage, rising fuel costs, demand on the service, covid restrictions and stretched budgets.

What does the driver shortage mean for SEN transport?

In September 2021 the UK government reported a driver shortage which has continued to affect supply chains across the country, including the delivery of home to school transport. Councils managing special educational needs (SEN) transport services have faced a further decrease in suppliers, increased costs and difficulty providing a consistent level of service, on top of an ever-growing demand.
