What is safeguarding training?

Safeguarding training teaches employees best practice for protecting vulnerable individuals from harm in the workplace. It helps learners recognise the signs of abuse or neglect and how to appropriately raise concerns so they can be investigated accordingly and effectively.

How often should safeguarding training be updated?

As a general rule, everyone who has the responsibility to safeguard vulnerable people at work, including adults or children, should undertake safeguarding training at least once per year.

Aside from this, other scenarios which should safeguarding training be refreshed are:

  • Changes in legislation or policies, including updates to existing legislation or the introduction of new legislation
  • As new risks emerge, for example cyberbullying or online safety
  • As risks emerge in the workplace, for example if risks increase, safeguarding training should be updated accordingly
How long does safeguarding training last?

Our online Safeguarding training can last around 2 hours but can depend on the learner’s existing proficiency in safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.

Those who have completed safeguarding training previously and practice safeguarding best practices regularly within the workplace could complete safeguarding training in around 1 hour or less.

What is safeguarding adults?

Safeguarding adults means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. It involves working together to prevent and stop both the risks and experiences of abuse or neglect while ensuring the adult’s wellbeing is promoted. This applies to individuals with care and support needs who may be more vulnerable due to issues like dementia, learning disabilities, mental ill-health, or substance abuse.

Who is responsible for the safeguarding of children?

The responsibility for safeguarding children is shared across various groups of individuals and organisations, including:

  • Parents and carers: This group have primary responsibility for safeguarding children
  • Organisations and professionals: Including organisations that work with or come into contact with children including local authorities
