Customer story: East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity

Transforming donor management with Donorfy

East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity supports four hospitals; Lister Hospital, Hertford County Hospital, New QEII Hospital, and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, raising funds for projects that go beyond NHS provision. With a small team and no dedicated CRM manager, the charity needed a donor management system that was intuitive, efficient, and supportive of their lean structure. That’s where Donorfy, now part of the Access Group, came in.

The full story

Bethany McNeil, Head of Public Fundraising at East and North Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity, shares how Donorfy has helped their small team overcome the challenges of donor management and fundraising. With no dedicated CRM manager, Bethany offers a candid look at how Donorfy has supported their work, improved efficiency, and enhanced donor stewardship.

From fragmented data to streamlined stewardship

Before Donorfy, the charity relied on an outdated accounting system that lacked donor history, communication tracking, and accurate financial reporting. This made it difficult to analyse giving patterns or steward donors effectively. Donorfy was recommended by peers, and stood out for its integrations with JustGiving, Mailchimp, and MuchLoved, as well as its automation features and financial dashboards.

“We used to rely on management accounts from finance colleagues to tell us what income had been raised each month. Now, our fundraising officer can manage transactions directly, and we can see income in real time,” says Bethany McNeil, Head of Public Fundraising.

Efficiency that empowers small teams

Donorfy quickly became a vital tool for the charity. It enabled faster donor imports, automated communications, and reduced manual workload, allowing the team to function more efficiently. Features like forms and triggers helped accelerate first contact with donors and improved campaign targeting through better demographic insights. Bethany adds:

“On the whole, we can function quicker and more efficiently. Donorfy has helped us communicate better as a team and made financial recording more accurate.”

Real impact, real results

Since adopting Donorfy, the charity has seen improved reporting, enhanced donor stewardship, and seen a general increase in income. Perhaps most importantly, the system has boosted team morale by reducing confusion and making day-to-day tasks easier for fundraisers.

“Donorfy has made a real difference to how we work, it’s helped us communicate better, manage donor data more efficiently, and ultimately raise more income. I’d definitely recommend it to other charities, especially small teams like ours. It’s easy to use, saves time, and supports smarter fundraising,” says Bethany.

Looking ahead with Access

As Donorfy continues to evolve under the Access Group, Bethany hopes to see improvements in event management functionality. “Our event manager still uses spreadsheets. If Donorfy can improve that area, it would be a huge win for us.”
