Access Rio Smart Notes

Access Rio Smart Notes is a new, AI-powered solution that seeks to reduce the administrative workload currently burdening clinicians in the healthcare industry. By using Ambient voice dictation, Smart Notes can automatically capture and summarise conversations, turning them into high-quality clinical notes in a fraction of the time currently being dedicated to them.

We estimate that if we can save just 3 minutes of admin time per note, we can release over 1.2 million days of care each year – the equivalent of an additional £331 million for additional clinical care, annually. Not only will this increase capacity to deliver better patient care, but it allows the notes to integrate with electronic health records like Access Rio EPR, and it will allow NHS Trusts to reduce their reliance on Agency staff, potentially saving hundreds of thousands each year.

Accurate record-keeping

Accurate record-keeping is vital for care delivery, but the hundreds of hours clinicians are currently spending on documentation is reducing the face-to-face time needed to deliver care and build relationships with patients or clients.

Through EHR integration, the NHS and other providers can use intelligent solutions like Access Evo SmartNotes to contribute to shared care records and to optimise existing workflows to make the time savings necessary to elevate care quality.

More personalised care, and the greater trust inherent in it, is a proven way of increasing care outcomes. Better care outcomes generally reduce readmission rates, as well as reduce wastage from the failure to properly adhere to treatment plans, and it improves the overall patient experience. The money saved from an approach like this benefits healthcare providers, allowing them to use the savings elsewhere.

Challenges facing Healthcare services

There are four chief concerns when it comes to the current approach to clinical notetaking:

Staff are experiencing rapid burnout from regularly high volumes of patients and the necessity to accurately document their interactions and assessments.

It is an inefficient use of clinician time to take notes in the current manner.

The forms process is often convoluted and complex.

Patients or clients often feel like they aren’t being heard or understood.

Reduce the note taking time

Clinicians are spending more than half of their working day documenting patient notes, and in many cases this pushes them beyond their contracted working hours and impinges on their free time – be that for rest, exercise, family or socialising.

Clinicians are people too, and if they don’t get this respite then they will struggle over time and burn out. NHS staff retention is already an issue due to either a lack of support, excessive workload, or both. During this struggle though they are still working, but there’s a risk that the quality of care delivered might deteriorate. Access Rio EPR records over 127 million notes annually, which shows how many notes are taken on a daily basis and how they all add up into a huge expenditure in terms of work hours.
