New Industry Research – The ‘Dashboard Fatigue’ Crisis in Construction
We asked 100+ construction leaders how they turn data into decisions - and found a sector surrounded by dashboards but starved of straight answers.
Construction teams have never had more reports, systems and dashboards. Yet the moment a decision needs to be made, the same thing happens: hours vanish pulling numbers together before anyone can act.
We call it ‘dashboard fatigue’ - the point where more data stops helping and starts slowing you down. Here are five findings that stood out.
Only 8% find it easy to turn data into action
Three quarters of leaders (75%) feel overwhelmed by the volume of dashboards and data in front of them - yet only 8% find it very easy to pull a genuine, actionable insight from all of it.
72% spend over 3 hours preparing data before making a decision
Before a report is produced or a call is made, the data has to be gathered - and that gathering has a cost. 72% of leaders spend three or more hours preparing data for a single decision. One in three lose six hours or more, and only 4% get there in under an hour. Multiply that across every month-end, board pack and cash-flow check, and the decision tax becomes one of the most expensive line items nobody measures.
15% work from a unified system across departments
If the data exists, why is action so slow? Because it doesn’t live in one place. 76% say different departments work from different systems, and only 15% operate from a genuinely unified one.
31% have no confidence in forecasting risk with their current tools
When hours go into assembling the past, little capacity is left to anticipate the future. Just 44% are even somewhat confident forecasting risk with their current tools, and 31% aren’t confident at all. The result is a sector managing problems after they land - overruns caught too late, and cash gaps spotted only at month-end.
6% are currently using AI for actionable insight
AI dominates the conversation, but not the day-to-day. Only 6% of leaders use AI to generate actionable insight today; 43% are exploring it without having implemented anything, and 21% have no plans at all. Asked what would most improve faster, smarter decisions, the top two answers were a unified data platform (44%) and real-time insights (39%) - the foundations AI needs to be useful.
