Financiers and accountants are more likely to be obese than their counterparts in other professions, a survey has found.
In a FATse 100 chart compiled by weight loss professionals at the Healthier Weight Centres across the country, finance came top as the profession where workers were most likely to be overweight.
Dr David Ashton, medical director at Healthier Weight Centres, said: "Expanding waistlines are affecting a wide range of professionals, from MDs and directors to telesales and healthcare workers.
"Professional and successful workers are our fastest growing group of patients. The most obvious explanation for this is the amount of time people spend sitting."
The company quizzed 100 obese patients about their lifestyles and jobs and found that almost a quarter worked in finance. In second place came company directors and managers with 15 per cent.
Findings follow statistics released yesterday by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development showing that the UK has the highest rate of obesity in Europe, with some 23 per cent of the population recorded as being overweight.
