There are 14.1 million people living with a disability in the UK – which is 19% of all working age adults and 46% of pensioners. That’s a lot of people, and your digital content needs to be accessible if you want to reach and engage all your potential service users, volunteers, donors and supporters. More than just a ‘nice to have’ public sector bodies are legally required to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. A provision that doesn’t (yet) extend to charities and non-profit organisations (with a few notable exceptions) that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be making moves to make your digital content accessible to all.

Everyone is a writer. I’m not talking Shakespeare or Dickens, but no matter what job you do, we all write hundreds, if not thousands, of words every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s a thank you letter, grant application or website content – every word counts. They are your brand, your voice, the image you present to the world. Strip away the design and what are you left with?

Just like that, the Olympics are over. Years of training, event planning and marketing gone in an instant (well, 16 days). Surely, everyone can relax now, right? Wrong. No. Because now comes the hardest (and arguably most important) part of all. Reflection and learning. If you do not take the time to celebrate your successes, acknowledge and learn from your challenges you are doing yourself and your team a disservice – not to mention missing out on some amazing future opportunities.

Do you know one of our favourite things about the Olympics? More than just a feat of athletic excellence and global cooperation, we love spotting all the different corporate partnerships that come together to make each event a reality. It might seem a world away from charity fundraising, but as the names of different partners flash across the screen, we can’t help but be reminded of the power and potential such initiatives can bring.

But the world of corporate giving can be a daunting one – and with 4.2 million companies nationwide, a lot of charities and non-profits simply don’t know where to start. That’s where we come in. Some people thought they would never happen, but on the 23rd of July the 2020 Summer Olympics has finally opened. In 2019, 1 in 5 people donated to charity using a website or app. That is a big chunk of the market, and one that got even bigger with COVID-19. Yet despite this surge in cashless giving, ‘digital fundraising’ remains one of the weakest skill areas for charities, with almost 41% of organisations wanting to grow and develop their online fundraising activity. Websites are a priority area for this, and rightly so. Did you know that some studies put the drop-out rate of digital donors as high as 50-70%? Imagine. More than half of your potential online gifts falling at the last hurdle. Your donate page.

It does not matter how good your digital fundraising campaign is. If donors cannot make it across the finish line, you’ve lost. No charity can afford to let that much opportunity slip through the net, so we’ve got some tips to help your organisation boost its online charity donations.

Just when you thought the road to June 21st was clear, the emergence and spread of the new Delta variant has pushed back the fourth and final stage of lockdown easing. For now, England is looking at three more weeks before Step 4 comes into play – and even then, we don’t know exactly what the situation will look like (after all, results of the government’s social distancing review are still pending).

Did you know that there are almost 170,000 registered charities in England and Wales? The landscape is vast, but most people are only familiar with a handful of household names. Why? Because 93% of charities have an income of less than £500,000, with 95% falling below the £1m mark. That means just 5% of charities in England and Wales account for almost 87% of sectoral income (£73.1 billion of £83.9 billion).

They do a lot with a little, but life as a small charity isn’t easy. That’s why, for this year’s Small Charities Day, we want to take some time to recognise and celebrate the contribution of small charities, and to share some top tips to help them ride the post-COVID storm.
