Penumbra selects Access to drive large-scale digital transformation project

Penumbra, one of Scotland’s largest mental health charities, has partnered with The Access Group to realise its digital transformation project, which aims to improve productivity, increase efficiency and boost service quality and employee well-being.

The integrated system will help provide a more connected, joined-up organisation combining financials, care management, rostering, recruitment and HR, alongside payroll processing and fundraising management.

Backed by Penumbra employees, the cloud-based solution will allow front-line staff to spend more time delivering care and support and less time on admin.

Nigel Henderson, chief executive of Penumbra, commented, “Many of our team work out in the community. Our current processes mean staff are required to return to the office to update systems or fill in paper forms, when they could be spending time supporting people with their recovery.

“This is demoralising for staff as they want to spend more time doing what they’re employed to do – providing care and support for those who use our services. Staff well-being and happiness without the drain of out-of-date, paper-based manual processes was a must for us”

With out-of-date servers and a range of ageing software systems – that were at the end of their useful life and offered no integration – Penumbra wanted to move to an enterprise-level cloud software solution.

The staff selection team were unanimous in their decision to choose Access. “The Care Planning and People Planner solutions really stood out – particularly as they both work offline,” said Nigel. “In some of the areas where we operate, there isn’t 3G and some of the people we support don’t have Wi-Fi or broadband. This feature isn’t just a nice-to-have – it’s absolutely essential.”

“Access was the only provider who could offer an integrated end-to-end cloud-based system, allowing us to take a leap into a new and exciting future,” he continued. “We wanted one supplier, one contact point for support. We didn’t want to be told ‘that’s not our responsibility you need to speak with another provider’. Having one partner is very attractive to us.”

Steve Sawyer, Access Health and Social Care’s managing director commented “Increasingly organisations like Penumbra are realising the value of multi-solution, transformation projects. Our unique position in the market to deliver these projects makes us perfectly placed to support them in achieving their goals. It’s hugely rewarding to work on these projects and see the impact our software solutions can have on staff morale and driving improved quality of care and range of services.”
