Version control

Check in/out

Access Document Management software enables you to track every change made to a document over its lifecycle. For example, users can 'check out' a document, make changes to it, and 'check it in' as a new revision. Each revision can be accompanied by detailed notes. For example, the user could record when they anticipate checking the document back in and each revision can be marked as either 'minor' or 'major' to give the user an indication about the work carried out.

Version history

On checkout, the document cannot be edited by another user. This ensures that work is not doubled up, and eliminates the risks of multiple copies. Should the person not be able to 'check in' the document for any reason, the administrator has the option to 'undo checkout' at their discretion. Each time a document is checked in/out and comments added, the 'version history' is updated for an instant snapshot of the document's progress.
