Young accountants are unhappy with salaries, claims survey

Nearly 60 per cent of part-qualified accountants are unhappy with their current salary and benefits package, reveals new research.

According to the Birmingham Post, the survey by Robert Half Finance and Accounting with PASS magazine claims that 74 per cent of trainee accountants would not change jobs if offered a pay rise.

Phil Sheridan, UK managing director of the specialist recruitment agency, said: "Employees are now looking to achieve a greater work/life balance as indicated by their desire for alternative benefits such as flexible hours and flexi-time."

The survey also found that on average, female accountants were paid £3,050 less than their male counterparts.

Part-qualified accountants in Ireland were paid the most, with a salary of £33,830, followed by London, the south coast, Thames Valley and Scotland.

Accountancy Age recently reported that "a surprising number" of accountants leaving the industry return within 12 months
