The majority of companies are failing to use business intelligence (BI) effectively, an analyst has claimed.
Traditional approaches to using BI need to adapt as organisations should be looking to make the most of the information they have in order to improve performance, asserted a research vice president from Gartner.
According to Computing, Nigel Rayner is expected to speak at a summit later this month when he will also suggest that companies selling BI analysis services will shift their focus to performance management (PM) indicators during the course of 2007.
"BI competency centres where the business and IT people manage a BI and PM strategy together are key to success," predicted Mr Rayner.
The expert added that businesses need to look at their longer term objectives so they can align both BI and PM with these goals in order to measure performance effectively.
In related news, Microsoft and Teradata, part of technology group NCR, have revealed that they are set to collaborate on enhancing interoperability between the software firm's BI solutions and a data application from Teradata.
