Vista allows for customisation

Computer users with the Windows Vista operating system installed on their PCs may be able to use some of the older features not included on the newer product by restoring them.

According to PC World, Britons missing the old tools of previous operating systems will be able to customise their menus in different ways, including being able to add the Run link which is no longer present in the Start menu.

In addition, some general changes have been made to the menu, with the All Programs selection displaying applications and folders directly above the choice rather than to the side, making access easier.

A search box is also provided to help with the finding of documents or files.

The Taskbar clock can also be customised or added to so that the display shows a number of clocks with different times from around the world.

"It may look like the Windows XP clock, but it's much better," the publication claims.

Last month, the magazine found that while some software applications may not have been certified for use on Vista, they may work all the same.

According to Microsoft spokesman Tom Caputo, the list of software vendors with approved applications for the operating system is not yet final, with "tens of thousands of applications" being able to run on Vista.
