The new Vista operating system is fast becoming a bestseller, one organisation has claimed.

Microsoft recently announced that the system has sold more than 20 million copies since its release on January 30th.

This could spell bad news for the company's rivals, organisation Direct Traffic has said, stating that Vista is likely to drive internet advertising forward while allowing for better search functionality.

The figures surpass sales of Windows XP, which totalled 17 million in its first two months on sale.

Microsoft's Bill Veghte said: "We are encouraged to see such a positive consumer response to Windows Vista right out of the gate."

He added that the corporation was setting a foundation for the system to become Windows' fastest-selling version ever.

Meanwhile, the president of Dell's consumer product group, Neil Hand, told ComputerActive.co.uk that the reaction from customers to Vista had been "quite positive".
