Software firm iSoft has announced that it is to launch an internal investigation into possible accounting irregularities.

The healthcare software firm will examine accounting over the last two years as part of its probe.

"The board of iSoft has received information suggesting possible accounting irregularities affecting revenue recognition under its former accounting policy in the financial years prior to and including the year ended 30 April 2005," the firm said in a statement.

It added: "The board has therefore commissioned an investigation into these possible irregularities."

Its auditors Deloitte will help to carry out the investigation.

The firm found itself at the centre of controversy earlier this year after being implicated in the delays caused to a £2 billion computer system for the NHS.

Subsequently, its chief executive Tim Whiston left the company after he said he did not want controversy surrounding him to prove unhelpful to those still working at the troubled firm.
