Businesses who wish to increase their productivity during this difficult period of economic slowdown should ensure that their workforce understands their survival strategy, one sector commentator has claimed.
Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, said that staff could be kept motivated if they understood how their employers expected to succeed during the recession.
She added that sometimes managers may consider looking for other opportunities within their organisation that their employees might prefer to experience.
On the subject of why there were currently so many absences in workforces across the UK, Ms Fairweather explained: "It comes down to motivational factors at work and often people aren't in a job that is well suited to them."
Furthermore, businesses may find that there is an issue with line management, which may be a signal for employers to assess their HR situation, she concluded.
A new survey from Avaya Inc. has revealed that absence could be costing Britain's small and medium-sized businesses up to £25,000 a year.
