UK tech experts 'have better access to training'

News Article - 15 August 2007

Technology professionals in the UK have better access to training than their counterparts in the rest of Europe, it has been claimed.

According to IT Skills body E-skills UK, more than a quarter of British technology workers had received training in the month before they were questioned for the survey. This compares with one in six workers from the rest of Europe.

The UK also features in the European top six for the average level of qualification held by IT professionals.

However, the research also highlights that the levels of training are slipping, with the level of tuition given to ICT workers having fallen below the country's national average.

Karen Price, chief executive of E-skills UK, described the findings as encouraging, but added: "The UK starts from a position of considerable strength but it is vital that we do not become complacent."

David Evans of the British Computer Society told IT Week that there may be a connection between IT skills shortages at some companies and the fall in training opportunities.
