UK company launches carbon footprint initiative

A UK-based energy conservation company, Living Life Green, has launched its UniGreen initiative, aimed at reducing IT energy costs and carbon footprints at universities.

The company claims that its CarbonWise product reduces up to 60 per cent of PC networks' running costs by centrally managing the energy states of every PC.

Each computer is then run at 100 per cent efficiency all of the time by the carbon accounting software.

A report on the organisation's carbon output is produced using the data and a carbon footprint calculator.

"We are committed to making CarbonWise affordable and accessible to universities," said operations director Graeme Scott.

He added: "The UniGreen initiative effectively pays for itself within six months, thereafter the savings continue."

Universities will pay 25 per cent on purchase under the scheme, followed by another 25 per cent after three months while the full payment is expected six months after the purchase.
