The worldwide demand for qualified financial professionals has never been greater, according to one expert.

Writing in the Belfast Telegraph, Tony Osude, head of learning and development at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), said that students receiving their A-Level results may want to consider a career in accounting.

While financial professionals' work has never been so "varied", Mr Osude stated that "all companies need someone to steer their finances".

The ACCA can provide people thinking of moving into a career in accounting with the "right starting point" to become fully qualified, he added.

Meanwhile, a new study conducted by Reed Employment found that accountancy was the third most popular career choice, behind owning a business and being a pilot or astronaut.

Janine Parry, head of marketing at the firm, said that the results of the survey revealed that many young people were favouring well paid jobs in the financial services sector over more creative roles.
