For IT employees, their training holds greater value than their salary, one sector commentator has claimed, comments which may be used by small and medium-sized enterprises to help set business goals for the new year.

Alex Farrell, managing director of The IT Job Board, said that IT was more integral to firms than it was ten or 20 years ago and that there was not a large company out there which did not have a large presence in this field on its board of directors.

"Companies understand that keeping their IT staff highly skilled which involves continual training is more important than pay increases," he added.

He went on to note that IT was fundamental to the way businesses were run.

According to research from The IT Job Board, 81 per cent of IT professionals would relocate to a foreign country if a job or work opportunity arose.

However, only 16 per cent cited that it would be due to the current economic situation.
