Time to stop the blame game?

News Article - 03 March 2009

Firms looking to increase their productivity during the recession need to stop blaming the weak currency and instead look to rates and infrastructure in order to remain globally competitive according to one sector commentator.

Charlotte Wilson, chief executive officer of Pure Events, said that for companies who were planning events, despite the poor exchange rate between the pound and the euro, it was still cheaper to host such a function in the UK than overseas.

Speaking at the International Confex, she added: "We seem to be blaming the rate of the euro in this country rather than looking at our own infrastructure."

And Ms Wilson noted that clients' needs could also be met by improving negotiation skills.

Meanwhile, another way of surviving the recession may be to begin accounting for carbon.

However, Jonathan Green, associate on the carbon reduction team at JMP Consultants, has said that businesses need to understand their environmental agendas in order to deliver them.
