Time to disclose carbon emissions

A record number of some of the world's largest organisations are being called upon to reveal their
carbon emissions, it has been noted.
Now may be the time for firms to begin
accounting for
carbon, after the
Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) requested that over 3,700 companies release information on their proposed or existing climate change strategy.
Online resource Business Green reports that last year 2,800 businesses were contacted for the information.
Paul Simpson, chief operating officer at the CDP, told the environmental news provider that the group was confident it would see an increase in the number of companies complying with the request for
carbon emissions disclosure.
"We think companies that have responded in the past will continue to respond and we expect an increase in response rates in the US in particular," he added.
However, while many firms may be making an increasing effort to decrease their
carbon footprint, the recession has led to just 17 per cent considering environmentally sustainable travel to be a high priority, research by the Association of Corporate Travel Executives and travel and expense systems provider KDS has found.
