Third runway decision 'wrong'

News Article - 22 January 2009
Category:

The recent announcement by the government that it had given approval to plans to build a third runway at Heathrow airport is "wrong", one sector commentator has claimed.

Companies looking to begin accounting for carbon emissions in their business travel may find themselves agreeing with comments from Richard George, roads and climate campaigner for Campaign for Better Transport, who said that there were many arguments against the expansion proposals.

"I think that's really fostered a feeling that the government has set out to build the runway and create a way to justify it, policy based evidence making, if you will," he added.

However, Mr George claimed that campaigners would be continuing to keep the pressure up, so that those opposing the runway could not be dismissed "as environmentalists".

Lawyers for the environmental organisation are now examining ways in which these supporters can act as a legal obstacle to plans for a third runway at Heathrow.
