Survey: Demand for accountants still high in Scotland

News Article - 28 June 2007

Demand for accountants and other finance workers in Scotland is still high, according to recently released figures.

The statistics from recruitment business Robert Half Finance & Accounting show that more than a quarter of Scottish employers plan to take on more financial workers over the next six months, with the majority doing so to expand their businesses, the Edinburgh News reports.

Other reasons given for the desire to increase staff included rising workloads, staff turnover and mergers and acquisitions.

However, the majority of the firms questioned said that their biggest challenge would be finding candidates with adequate accounting skills and less than a quarter said that they planned to increase salaries during the second half of this year.

Last month, managing director of Robert Half David Jones said that demand for qualified accountants was "as high as it has ever been", with recently qualifying staff able to find job opportunities all over the world.
