Small firms 'have broader concerns than IT'

News Article - 20 July 2007

People starting up a business often have more to consider than just their IT issues, an expert has claimed.

According to Adam Wayland, editor of website SmallBusiness.co.uk - a provider of advice for those setting up a small firm - while employing a specialist to deal with IT problems, it is often not the main priority of smaller firms.

"To put it simply, there is a lot more to be concerned about when you are starting a business than your IT worries," he said.

However, there are benefits to taking someone on with a specialist knowledge of IT issues, Mr Wayland stated.

For instance, problems can be dealt with quickly and downtime can be minimised, he suggested.

Many small firms employ the services of technology or software businesses rather than having their own in-house specialist.

Chartered accountants Goodman Jones for example recently marked ten years benefiting from the software services of IT company Access Accounting.
