One sector commentator has investigated whether or not company executives should be paid for hitting their
carbon budgets as well as their financial targets, which may offer inspiration to firms wishing to implement a
carbon emissions measurement in their operations.
Anne Moore Odell, writing on the online pages of Business Green, revealed that
Carbon Disclosure Project's 2008 report found that 29 per cent of respondents have begun to build environmental responsibility and climate awareness into their executive initiatives.
In addition, it was found that half of the companies within the utilities sector had incentives in place to reward managers charged with meeting environmental business goals.
Neil Braun, chief executive of the CarbonNeutral Company, said: "Measurable reductions in
carbon footprint are increasingly part of performance evaluations as companies recognise a cost of
carbon in their businesses."
Meanwhile, Business Green has also stated that companies may wish to look to their office cafeterias when it comes to reducing waste and increasing energy-efficiency.
