A scripting tool to help with the automation of general system
management tasks has been released for Microsoft's Vista operating
system.
The new tool, from Microsoft, is entitled PowerShell 1.0, after
being code-named Monad.
It aims to aid the user by performing common administration tasks,
such as managing event logs, services and processes, as well as
Windows Registry and Windows Management Instrumentation, reports
Techworld.com.
"I think one of the issues is how manageable an [operating system]
is and while Microsoft has always tried to provide lots of
graphical tools, there are still a lot of repetitive tasks where
you don't want to use a graphic interface," analyst Michael Cherry,
from independent research company Directions on Microsoft, told the
website.
The free download, which is supported by Vista, also runs on
Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, providing features which can
sort, format and filter data, as well as navigating data
stores.
Prior to the release of Vista earlier this week, Microsoft's chief
executive officer Steve Ballmer said that the launch would have "a
dramatic impact on computing long-term".
