An initiative launched in the north-east to help companies reduce their
carbon footprints and control costs has identified where £60 million of savings can be made, nebusiness reports.
One NorthEast teamed up with the
Carbon Trust to develop the north-east
carbon management programme.
This project is designed to advise 19 energy intensive firms in the region to cut
carbon emissions and help give them a competitive edge.
The businesses taking part in the scheme come from a variety of sectors including pharmaceuticals, engineering, primary steel and chemicals.
Carbonaccounting software can help companies who are keen to take
social responsibility for their
carbon emissions.
Speaking to nebusiness, Andy Togher, director of business relations at the
Carbon Trust, said: "In tougher economic times and rising energy prices it has never been so important to take action on
carbon emissions to gain the benefits for the bottom line."
Earlier this week, the Associated of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) said companies need to start thinking about their environmental obligations sooner rather than later.
