Despite rumours that Microsoft's service pack for Vista will not be ready for release by the end of the year, a possible delay is not likely to impact upon the take-up of the operating system within companies, it has been claimed.

Analysts have said that uptake of Vista is unlikely to hampered by a later than expected release date for the service pack.

In a note by UBS Investment Research analyst Heather Bellini, it is claimed that Vista's service pack could still be out before the end of the year.

"The company most likely has accounted for the possibility of unforeseen delays in this timing," the note reads.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has confirmed that it is planning to release test builds of the software between now and the end of the year, adding that it had never committed to a release date for the service pack.

The firm has also said that certain changes will be accessible through the security pack, such as providing technical information for competitors to boost optimisation.
