Many companies in the licensed sector will go out of business in the coming months, according to experts.
Pubs and bars are seeing their
business growth hit from both sides, with rising energy, raw material and employment costs as well as customer cautiousness during the current economic downturn all impacting on their profits, reports the Publican.
PricewaterhouseCooopers' (PwC) Craig Livesey, who was involved in the recent Cairns Beer Company administration, told the magazine that his firm was seeing more business because of companies in the industry failing.
"What is surprising us is the speed with which things for some companies are turning sour," he said.
Despite the downturn, many Britons seem to have
business plans to open their own pub.
A survey of 2,860 people in the UK by www.Caterer.com, a recruitment site, found that nearly a quarter (24 per cent) of those polled said running their own pub would be their ideal job.
The choice was only beaten by being a professional sportsman, on 26 per cent, while being a fire fighter was third on 19 per cent.
