Prime minister Gordon Brown has urged business leaders to join him in maximising the opportunities of fossil fuel alternatives.
Speaking at the UK Low
Carbon Economy Summit at the Tate Modern in London on Saturday, Mr Brown maintained a move to greener alternatives could cut costs and create new growth areas.
He said: "All our needs of the country, all our goals as an economy point in exactly the same direction - to tackle climate change, to improve energy security, to create jobs and to stimulate business to growth. To achieve all of these we need to reduce our demand for energy and to develop and deploy alternatives to fossil fuels."
Detailing the practicalities of such an initiative, the prime minister insisted that every business must manage its energy bill through efficiency measures.
One way of doing this is installing
carbonaccounting software to identify where savings can be made.
The one-day summit was set up to bring together business and government leaders in informed debates to help identify the steps need to tackle low
carbon solutions.
