Accounting software and other electronic accounting packages
have overtaken traditional office tools among finance
professionals, according to a new survey.
Research from information provider CCH reveals nearly 60 per cent
of companies are now storing most of their clients' files on the
computer.
A larger number - 79 per cent - state they have implemented a least
some aspects of a paperless office system and 90 per cent of UK
accountancy workers would recommend this software to other
potential users.
John Bower, director of CCH Business Development, says: "The high
level of satisfaction that accountants are now expressing towards
paperless office systems shows that we are now reaching a tipping
point in the market."
Among the reasons cited for technological change were the benefits
of secure electronic backup, easier access to files, administration
and storage cost savings and environmental concerns.
Earlier this month the Confederation of British Industry (CBI)
insisted embracing IT is the best way to boost competitiveness in
business.
