More than one in five accountants plan to move jobs over the next
year.
While a third of commercial firms surveyed expect to increase their
finance staff headcount over the next 12 months, 21 per cent of
accountants said they were looking for a move in that period.
The research from recruitment firm ECHM found that 30 per cent of
accountants in Manchester and the north-west were looking to change
positions, compared to 15 per cent in London and the
south-east.
London-based accountants appeared to be largely motivated by the
desire to move up the career ladder, with 36 per cent seeing this
as their reason for wanting a move. Only 13 per cent said they were
driven by financial factors.
Confidence in the finance jobs market was found to be high among
employees.
"However, it is encouraging to see that despite recent stock market
fluctuations, growth looks set to continue," said John Hunter,
chief Executive of ECHM.
He said the results of the survey showed that it would be employers
who could offer prospects and deliver competitive salaries that
would benefit from the top talent.
"It will be those companies that most successfully adapt their
attraction and retention strategies in this candidate-driven
environment that will thrive in the war for talent," he added.
