Most chief finance officers are predicting that hiring activity
in the new year will not change from its current levels, research
has shown.
A survey by Robert Half International showed that 90 per cent of
financiers forecast no change in the hiring of accountants and
other finance workers in 2007, however six per cent of senior staff
said they would be hiring more workers in the first quarter.
Some three per cent forecasted that they would be losing staff in
the new year.
Max Messner, chairman and chief executive officer of Robert Half
International, said: "Continued hiring, driven by business
expansion, rising workloads and ongoing compliance initiatives, has
created a tight labour market for skilled accounting and finance professionals."
He added that this prompts an increase in competition, in
particular for senior accountant and financial analyst
positions.
Employers should provide training programmes for their staff to
prevent too much stress at work, Ken Harbourne of Robert Half
International, recently said, on the back of results which showed
Ireland's finance workers are stressed because of heavy
workloads.
