The Carbon Trust and Grant Thornton have teamed up to offer advice to environmental start-ups, according to Accountancy Age.

Companies with low carbon business plans will be given the opportunity to work with Grant Thornton - as well as the law firm Mills & Reeve - to help give them a competitive edge.

Speaking to Accountancy Age, Simon Cook, clean technology corporate finance manager, said: "We believe our considerable experience, breadth of business expertise and international reach will make a real difference to these exciting low carbon businesses."

He added the company was keen to encourage business growth among forward-thinking firms.

The initiative provides environmentally-friendly companies £60,000 of support over the course of 12 to 18 months.

Carbonaccounting software is one way businesses can reduce costs while simultaneously improving the impact their firms have on the environment.

Earlier this month, Computer Weekly said harnessing a greener IT policy was a good way for accounting firms to improve their carbon footprint.
