The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has announced the appointment of Paul George to director of auditing.
In his new role, which will coordinate the work of the Auditing Practices Board, Audit Inspection Unit and the Professional Oversight Board, Mr George will assume responsibility for the FRC's strategic outcome on auditing and will participate on the council's behalf in regulatory discussions.
The council outlined that the role seeks to increase users' reliance on audit opinion on issues such as financial statements.
Assuming the position from the start of the month, Mr George will also continue his position as FRC director of the Professional Oversight Board, which relates to the work of accountants and actuaries.
"I am delighted to take on these new responsibilities which will build on the existing work of the Auditing Practices and Professional Oversight Boards and facilitate coordination of the FRC's work in relation to auditing," he said.
Chaired by Harvard graduate Sir Christopher Hogg, a former director for Courtaulds and a non-executive director of the Bank of England, the FRC is the UK's independent regulator responsible for promoting confidence in corporate reporting and governance.
