Jim Mather, minister for enterprise, energy and tourism, is to give a keynote speech at an Edinburgh-based accountancy event next month.

During the CA Business Courses Accountants in Business Conference, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday March 6th, the MSP will detail the opportunities the Scottish government foresees for the accounting profession.

Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland (ICAS) senior vice president Glenn Allison will be chairing the meeting, which will also highlight the government's economic policy and strategic ambitions.

Other financial professionals will be on hand to discuss business growth and change, as well as how to add value to an organisation.

ICAS describes the event as "an excellent opportunity" for commercially-focused accountants to share and gather information on the subject.

Last month, ICAS signed an agreement with the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants, which will see the two organisations work together on a number of topics, including the education of accountants and auditors.
