Accountants and other finance professionals are to be offered the opportunity to join an online community run by computer Giant Microsoft.

The software specialist made the announcement at a conference in San Diego earlier this week, Accountancy Age reports.

Referring to the website as "MySpace for financial pros", the portal has yet to receive an official name, but is being constructed under the title Dynamics Live Beta Community.

Finance managers, corporate controllers and accountants will be able to access a range of features on the site, including forums, blogs and tagging.

Earlier this month, the corporation announced a new website where software professionals using Microsoft's offerings could share their success stories.

According to the firm, the UK's software market is worth around £20 billion, with Microsoft partners accounting for £8 billion of this total.

The innovate-uk.com portal aims to illustrate the possibilities within the software industry, showing how computer experts can make the most of technology.
