An update is being issued for Microsoft's SQL Server in a bid to
ensure that the software is compatible with new operating system
Windows Vista.
SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2, to be released on Monday, provides
a number of tweaks to allow the software to comply with Vista, in
addition to various interoperability, manageability and data
compression enhancements, reports ZDNet.co.uk.
Microsoft has amended its terms stipulating how the server can be
run on virtualisation software "to allow unlimited virtual
instances on servers that are fully licensed for SQL Server 2005
Enterprise Edition", the company said.
In addition, Microsoft's Service Pack 1 has been submitted to the
German government in the hope that it will be certified with the
Common Criteria security standard.
The company described the application as illustrating its
commitment to "building security technology into SQL Server
2005".
Microsoft added that Common Criteria evaluations it is looking to
receive for Service Packs 1 and 2 would be formally recognised by
governments in 24 countries which have signed the Common Criteria
Recognition Agreement.
Features of the new tool include add-ins for various programs in
Office 2007 such as Excel and SQL Server reporting services which
allow for the creation and management of reports.
