Microsoft has reassured the industry that its latest business software package the SQL Server 2008 will be released on time.

Ted Kummert, corporate vice president of the data and storage platform division at Microsoft, said that the firm understands that a five-year wait between releases is "too long", Computerworld reports.

"We are very committed to delivering SQL Server releases in 24 to 36 months," he said.

According to the news provider, the new features of the server are set to be demonstrated at the Professional Association for SQL Server user group's 2007 community summit, later this week.

Microsoft's SQL Server 2005 was named the number one analytical processing server on the market by The OLAP Report last month.

Chris Caren, general manager of office business applications at the firm, said it was "focused" on enabling its customers to improve their business performance.
