A large number of businesses plan to implement Microsoft Vista within the next six months, a survey has found.
The study, conducted by ZD Net UK, found that 46 per cent of companies want to upgrade their operating systems, with 41 per cent saying their system of choice would be Windows' Vista.
Of those planning to implement the system, more than half said they wanted to do so within the next six months, with 70 per cent saying they would apply Vista within a year.
According to the survey, most of the upgrades will be confined to software; however some 18 per cent of respondents said they would be upgrading their hardware at the same time.
One interviewee told the website: "We have approximately 1,500 PCs deployed, all running W2000.
"We have hardware refreshes every three years and this will be the impetus for starting the rollout of Vista on the machines to be retired in 2007."
Currently, the Business Edition of Windows Vista, which has been produced with the ideals of companies in mind, is available for purchase and boasts features such as remote access and fax and scan.
Other elements will not come into effect before new releases of Exchange server and Windows server.
