Management accounting research started

News Article - 03 August 2006
Category: Business

A new research project has been launched with the aim of examining management accountancy issues.

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (Cima) initiative will look at the issues surrounding management accountancy through a process of interventionist research.

It is hoped that the study will uncover real difficulties in the area and tackle them effectively. Cima is now inviting proposals as part of its interventionist research.

"We see this as an exciting opportunity to strengthen co-operation between academics and practitioners," said George Glass, chairman of Cima's technical committee.

"In addition to building on established relationships, we hope that this will encourage the development of new and closer ties between the two communities to the mutual benefit of both."

Several areas have already been identified as potential subjects for the research programme. Organisations without boundaries, technological developments, and outsourcing and business partnering could all be involved.

Mr Glass said he hoped the initiative would "contribute to a greater understanding of the benefits of interventionist research and will identify its potential in the future".
