Low-income households will receive help on lowering their energy use and their
carbon emissions measurement, the government has announced.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change will instruct hundreds of employees from organisations like Citizens Advice Bureaux and housing associations, who will then offer advice to the community.
Following a successful pilot scheme, the Energy Best Deal campaign will now be deployed nationally by Ofgem.
Its launch on Thursday came during Energy Saving Week, where the public are asked to make small changes to begin
accounting for
carbon emissions by reducing energy use.
"We must do as much as we can at this time of high energy prices to help people deal with their fuel bills - especially those who are the most vulnerable such as the elderly and those on low incomes," said Joan Ruddock, energy and climate change minister.
She added that the "new army of energy advisors" will help make a "real difference" to people's bills and
carbon emissions measurement.
Training for the "army" will run throughout the UK over the next few months.
