Businesses seeking
carbonaccounting software may be interested to know that very significant quantities of low-
carbon technology are needed in order to improve energy efficiency, one sector commentator has claimed.
Professor Paul Elkins, professor of energy and environment policy at King's College London, said there was a whole range of technologies that could allow people to begin
accounting for
carbon emissions.
"The sorts of technologies they are thinking of are more efficient vehicles, nuclear, gas-propelled substitution,
carbon capturing and storage, etcetera. Very significant quantities of these technologies are required," he said.
Speaking at a Royal Society meeting entitled Towards a Low
Carbon Energy Future, Professor Elkins continued that the "optimistic hope" was for a large proportion of improvements in energy efficiency that can be taken up at a middle or low cost to a business.
The Royal Society meeting saw members focusing on the importance of meeting future energy needs while also tackling climate change and the current and potential technological options available.
In addition, how they can contribute to an integrated energy strategy for the future was discussed.
