Look to internal promotion

News Article - 24 December 2008

Firms concentrating on productivity and business growth in the new year have been advised to look at internal promotion first when it comes to recruiting new management.

Sally Toumi, managing director of Stark Brooks, said that the group found that the right candidate for the job might not necessarily be outside of the organisation.

And she added that she did not believe this should be seen as a reaction to the current economic climate mixed in with the cost of turning to external recruitment.

"I think in the current climate we will see more of it. But I think savvy businesses are the ones who have been applying that policy for some time," Ms Toumi concluded.

The recent Workplace Motivation Report, commissioned by T-Mobile, revealed that 32 per cent of Britons claim to be a realist in the workplace.

In addition, employees like to be surrounded by upbeat, enthusiastic personalities but do not feel motivated by colleagues who spend their time joking around and making flippant comments.
