Accounting firm KPMG has triumphed at the Accountancy Age Awards, which celebrates 'the best in the profession'.

The company was awarded Global Firm of the Year, with judges claiming: "This is a firm demonstrating what it means to lead as a global player."

It also won Audit Team of the Year and Corporate Finance Deal of the Year for its £170 million acquisition of the motor insurance sector of Provident Financial by GMAC Insurance Services.

Director for KPMG in Edinburgh Catherine Burnet received the Accountant of the Year award, acknowledging her role in helping a leading international bank move to International Financial Reporting Standards.

Joint chairman of KPMG Europe John Griffith-Jones commented: "The scale and range of awards we have won shows that KPMG is becoming increasingly distinctive among Big Four firms."

The business recently announced its intentions to increase its business in China by increasing employee levels to around 9,000 over the next two years, reports Accountancy Age.
